Concept

In this exhibition, DDMY Studio has created a prototype fire detector called ‘Konfak’, which is exhibited at the ‘Jing Jai Warehouse by Central Group’, which is used to simulate a fire hazardous area of a forest. The pillars of the structure are used to simulate trees, with the prototype fire detectors installed on each. A screen is displayed nearby, designed to inform audience members of the mechanics of the detection system, while also acting as a cautionary sign to warn community members or authorities of any hazards. DDMY Studio has designed the system to communicate via radio signals, which is a technique based on the ‘Internet of Things’ concept. These fire detector prototypes can help mitigate the risk that arises from authorities’ lack of geographical knowledge when fighting forest fires, and can accurately and quickly determine the exact sites of forest fires, which can also mitigate any damages that could be caused should the fire be allowed to spread, all without relying on the area’s inconsistent cellular coverage.

Suggestions for Experiencing this Exhibition : Raise your hand up before the box with the lightbulb to activate the ‘simulated fires’ (each activation will last 8 seconds). You can determine where the fire has started by looking at the projector screen near the entrance, which will display the location of the fire.
