ไทวิจิต พึ่งเกษมสมบูรณ์ เกิดปี พ.ศ. 2502 ที่ จ.ปัตตานี จบการศึกษาด้านภาพพิมพ์ จากคณะจิตรกรรมประติมากรรมและภาพพิมพ์ มหาวิทยาลัยศิลปากร และได้รับทุนการศึกษาจาก Academia Sztuk Pieknych ในเมืองคราคุฟ (Krakow) ประเทศโปแลนด์ ถือเป็นศิลปินไทยคนแรกที่เข้าเรียนที่นั่น ไทวิจิตเป็นศิลปินที่มีผลงานโดดเด่นตั้งแต่สมัยเป็นนักศึกษา ผลงานของเขาคว้ารางวัลระดับชาติ และยังมีผลงานจัดแสดงทั้งเดี่ยวและกลุ่มอยู่เสมอในช่วงหลายสิบปีที่ผ่านมา โดยปัจจุบันไทวิจิตพำนักและทำงานในเมืองเชียงใหม่ เป็นศิลปินแนวนามธรรมที่โดดเด่นด้วยการใช้วัสดุที่หลากหลาย โดยเฉพาะการเปลี่ยนสิ่งของเหลือใช้อย่างโลหะ แผ่นไม้ กระดาษลัง ผ้ากระสอบ หรือปูน ให้กลายเป็นงานศิลปะที่เต็มไปด้วยจิตนาการและความสนุกสนาน ไม่ว่าจะเป็นงานจิตรกรรม ประติมากรรมสื่อประสมของเขานั้นเป็นต้นแบบของทั้งศิลปินรุ่นหลัง และนักออกแบบหลายๆ คน โดยเฉพาะการทำลายกรอบของความคิดในการใช้วัสดุ สุนทรียภาพแบบไทวิจิตจึงเต็มไปด้วยความเป็นไปได้ใหม่ๆ และไม่จำกัดตัวเองอยู่บนรูปแบบใดรูปแบบหนึ่ง

Thaiwijit Puengkasemsomboon was born in the year 1959 in the Pattani province. He graduated from the Faculty of Paintings, Sculptures, and Press Printing, Silpakorn University, with a specialization in press printing. He later received a scholarship to pursue further studies at the Academia Sztuk Pieknych in Krakow, Poland, the first Thai artist to have ever been accepted. Thaiwijit was a known entity in the art scene since his university days, with many of his works receiving international awards. In recent years, his works have been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions. Thaiwijit currently resides in Chiang Mai, an abstract artist who works with a wide range of materials to create his works, especially recycled items such as metal, wood, cardboard, fabric, burlap, or cement, creating works of art infused with wondrous imagination and whimsy. Whether it be his paintings or his sculptures, his works have served as inspiration for an entire generation of young artists and designers, who follow in his steps by challenging established frames of thought when it comes to using certain materials. As such, Thaiwijit’s aesthetic is always fresh with new possibilities, as he never confines himself to any one form of creation.

แนวความคิด / Concept

ต่อเนื่องจากผลงานชุด “หนีเสือปะจระเข้” ที่ไทวิจิต พึ่งเกษมสมบูรณ์ ได้ร่วมแสดงในเทศกาล Bangkok art biennale 2020 ที่ผ่านมา ในนิทรรศการครั้งนี้ เขาได้สร้างประติมากรรมจากเศษโลหะเหลือใช้ที่เล่นกับสำนวนไทยที่หมายถึงการหลบหนีจากภัยอันตรายหนึ่งเพื่อไปพบกับอีกหนึ่งภัยอันตราย ซึ่งเป็นอุปมาที่ศิลปินกล่าวถึงปัญหาสิ่งแวดล้อมในปัจจุบัน เมื่อเราพยายามที่จะแก้ปัญหาหนึ่ง แต่ในบางครั้งกลับไปเพิ่มปัญหาใหม่เข้ามาแทนที่ ประติมากรรมที่สามารถใส่ขยะได้หล่านี้ เป็นการช่วยเตือนถึงภัยในโลกปัจจุบัน เมื่อเทคโนโลยีได้พัฒนาอย่างก้าวกระโดด ทรัพยากรได้ถูกใช้ด้วยอัตราเร่งอย่างที่ไม่เคยเป็นมาก่อน เรากำลังอยู่ตรงทางแยกของอนาคต พยายามคิดค้นวิธีที่จะช่วยเหลือสภาพแวดล้อมด้วยความคิดที่ก้าวล้ำ และซับซ้อน แต่ในอันที่จริง ผลงานของไทวิจิตอาจจะกำลังเป็นการเสนอความคิดที่เรียบง่าย และทุกคนสามารถทำได้เพียงแค่ใช้จิตสำนึกในการทิ้งวัตถุสิ่งของ ซึ่งเป็นพื้นฐานที่จะนำไปสู่การแก้ปัญหาสิ่งแวดล้อมขนาดใหญ่นั่นเอง

Continuing from his piece “Attitude Determines Destiny”, which Thaiwijit Puengkasemsomboon showcased at the Bangkok Art Biennale 2020, the artist has created a large sculpture using discarded scrap metal, which plays on the Thai proverb that means ‘to escape from one danger only to face another”, a sentiment the artist applies to the current environmental crisis. As we try to solve an issue, we may inadvertently create others in its place. These sculptures, which may also serve as garbage receptacles, act as reminders of the urgent danger facing earth. As technology continues to progress at breakneck speed, natural resources are being used at an unprecedented rate. We are poised at a crossroads in history, trying with all our wisdom to come up with innovations that could alleviate all the complicated problems facing our planet. Thaiwijit’s works present a simpler idea: if everyone can do their part in disposing of trash where they are supposed to, then perhaps we can finally take the first step towards solving the larger issues threatening us all.
